Go Green: San Diego Gold Refinery Recycles Gold |

The San Diego gold refinery at San Diego Jewelry Buyers (SDJB) has teamed up with local award-winning designer Timothy Meier to provide "green" (eco-friendly) fine jewelry to San Diego residents.
San Diego and Southern California residents can bring their used gold jewelry into SDJB's gold refinery offices at 907 6th Ave. and receive cash for it today. SDJB's gold refinery refines the gold jewelry and items it purchases from consumers and mints the precious metal into one ounce "eco-friendly gold" bars. Some of this recycled gold is now being supplied to Timothy Meier Design for creating "eco-friendly" fine custom jewelry designs. SDJB founder and co-owner Carl Blackburn sees gold recycling on the local level as an important step toward a greener jewelry industry. Blackburn believes that the people of San Diego can work together as a community to lessen worldwide environmental damage by recycling, refining, and refashioning its scrap gold into new pieces of fine jewelry that everyone can be proud to wear. "My vision is for the San Diego jewelry industry to become entirely self-sufficient with regards to gold. In the future, jewelers should be able to re-supply all their gold stocks from local green gold suppliers like San Diego Jewelry Buyers," Blackburn said. "Recycling gold is not the only, nor by any means final, solution to the problem. But it is one of the first steps required in the ultimate goal of eliminating all the destructive mining practices that are causing harm to our planet. I am very happy that an outstanding designer like Timothy Meier has joined our San Diego gold refinery in this effort." Meier is an accomplished jewelry designer and bench jeweler who creates custom fine jewelry from his downtown studio. As a master craftsman, he performs each step of the jewelry building process himself: from mixing his own precious metal alloys to the final gemstone setting. His intense attention to detail recently earned him a "Best in Show" award from JCK magazine, one of the industry's most respected magazines and trade show organizers. Designing jewelry inspired by organic lines, Meier says that he is pleased to be working with San Diego Jewelry Buyers' gold refinery on its green gold venture, as it is a logical extension of his respect for the beauty of the natural world.
