Get a Free Verbal Diamond Appraisal When you visit another gold or jewelry buyer, you might see your diamond thrown on a scale along with scrap gold and broken chains. Those buyers don’t see your diamond for what it is – a precious stone to be valued individually and carefully. SDJB’s head diamond buyer, Izhak Abu, has 20+ years of expertise in working with high quality diamonds. Because he has worked as both a professional diamond cutter and as an international diamond dealer, he values diamonds differently. He examines not only the diamond’s clarity, carat weight, and cut, but most importantly, its potential to be recut into an ideal cut diamond.Once Izhak (or one of our GIA Graduate Diamonds diploma holders) has completed your free verbal diamond appraisal and has given you our offer, we encourage you to shop around. Visit other jewelry buyers, sit in their offices, and hear what they have to say about your diamond.
We are confident that our expert buyers, friendly staff, and attention to detail are unparalleled.

Whether you have a large or small diamond, a known brand name or an unknown antique, San Diego Jewelry Buyers is the best place to sell your diamond jewelry. Call our knowledgeable GIA Graduate Diamonds diploma holders to set up a complimentary appraisal or fill out the form below to request an online analysis of your jewelry.| Property | The GIA scale | Grades | Why it moves the price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Carat weight | Measured to the hundredth of a carat | Continuous | Price per carat steps up at the half and full carat marks, so a 0.98 ct and a 1.01 ct are not near neighbours in value |
| Color | D, colorless, through Z, light yellow or brown | 23 | The top grades are scarce; below about K the tint is visible face-up to an unaided eye |
| Clarity | Flawless through I3 | 11 | What matters is whether inclusions are visible and where they sit, not only the letter |
| Cut | Excellent through Poor, graded on standard round brilliants | 5 | Cut governs how the stone actually returns light, and is the grade most often traded away |
How much is my diamond worth?
It comes down to carat weight, cut, color and clarity, and then to what that particular stone is doing in the market. Two stones of the same weight can be worth very different amounts. We examine and grade it in front of you and explain what we are seeing.
Do I need a GIA certificate?
No. We buy certified and uncertified stones every week and grade in house either way. A current GIA report does help, because it removes any argument about the grade.
Do you buy the setting as well as the stone?
Yes. We value the stone and the mounting separately and pay for both, including the metal by weight if the setting is not worth keeping intact.
What about lab-grown diamonds?
We buy them, and it is important to say up front that they are valued very differently from natural stones. We test rather than assume, so tell us if you know which you have.
What do I need to bring?
The item and a valid government-issued photo ID. California law requires ID from anyone selling to a licensed buyer, so there are no exceptions. Nothing else needs preparing.
How do I get paid?
We pay the same day you accept. There is no per-transaction cash limit, though a very large amount needs a day's notice so we can arrange the funds. Check and wire are always available.
Where can I sell a diamond near me in San Diego?
907 6th Ave in the Gaslamp Quarter, downtown, Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm. A short drive from Hillcrest, North Park, La Jolla, Coronado, Point Loma, Mission Valley and Chula Vista, with paid parking on 6th and in the lots either side of Broadway. Not local? The Sell From Home kit is free and insured to the full value of the item.
Can I keep the diamond and sell only the setting?
Yes, and almost no other buyer in town can do this, because it needs a bench. We take the stone out, buy the mounting for its gold weight, and either hand you the loose diamond or reset it into something you will actually wear. It is the usual answer when a ring is inherited and the stone matters but the setting does not.
Can you put my diamond into a new ring?
That is a large part of what our bench does. We check the stone first for chips and prior damage, design around what it can safely carry, and you approve a drawing before anything is cut. See custom engagement rings and resetting an inherited diamond.
Which of the four Cs matters most when selling?
Carat weight sets the bracket and cut decides what the stone looks like inside it, but the honest answer is that no single grade decides the number.
Two stones with identical paperwork can be worth meaningfully different amounts depending on where the inclusions sit, how the stone faces up and what that shape and size is doing in the market that month. This is why we grade it in front of you and explain what we are seeing rather than reading grades off a certificate.
